Postdoctoral Research Position

at the Chair for New Economic Geography and East Asia (https://www.neg.msm.uni-due.de/en/profile ), which is affiliated with the Mercator School of Management (MSM, https://www.msm.uni-due.de/mercator-school-of-management ) and the Institute of East Asian Studies (IN-EAST, https://www.uni-due.de/in-east ).
The Mercator School of Management, in partnership with the Institute of East Asian Studies, are offering a full-time postdoctoral research position for candidates (m/f/d) who already hold or are close to completing a PhD in the fields of international economics or urban/regional economics. The fixed-term position is limited to 3 years (with the option of an extension) and is intended to offer early career researchers the opportunity to develop their research portfolio within an excellent research environment prior to entering the academic job market for tenure-track positions at major research universities.
Requirements
The postholder is required to perform the following duties:
- to engage in research of a quality commensurate with publication in leading economics journals;
- to develop, manage, and promote an independent research program;
- to present his/her research at international conferences and research workshops;
- to provide up to four hours of graduate or undergraduate teaching per week (during term-time);
- to cooperate in the administration of teaching and research.
Your Profile:
- You will hold a PhD or be close to completing a doctoral degree in economics (in particular international or urban/regional economics);
- You will possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English (proficiency in German is not required, but advantageous);
- You will have the ability to develop new ideas, to work effectively with your academic colleagues, and to present your research findings convincingly;
- You will be interested in East Asian economic studies (preferably with a focus on Japan);
- You will be willing to play an active role in the intellectual life of the MSM and the IN-EAST.
