September Seminar in Tokyo: Sept. 21–30, 2016
Organized by Prof. Karen Shire, Kei Takata Ph.D. (both IN-EAST), Prof. Shigeto Sonoda and Misook Lee Ph.D. (University of Tokyo).
The event is part of DFG research group 1613 Risk and East Asia program with partnership of Interfaculty Initiative in Information Studies at the University of Tokyo.

The seminar entitled “Research Design and Practice in Global Japanese Studies” co-organised by Prof. Karen Shire/Kei Takata Ph.D. from University of Duisburg-Essen and Prof. Shigeto Sonoda/Misook Lee Ph.D. from University of Tokyo will accommodate twelve Ph.D. students from Germany, U.K. and Japan as well as guest scholars specialized in the fields of student participants (e.g. migration, social movements, innovation, International Relations in East Asia, etc.).
Invited scientist includes, Prof. Florian Coulmas (UDE), Prof. Axel Klein (UDE), Prof. Daishiro Nomiya (Chuo University), Prof. Reiko Ogawa (Kyushu University) and others.
Through the presentation of their dissertation research proposal, Ph.D. fellows will gain useful knowledge and invaluable resources to conduct field work in Japan and Asia.
Participants will also visit research institutions and organizations that would be beneficial for their future research; Leading scholars and specialists at the Institute of Statistical Mathematics, the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, National Diet Library, the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry will introduce us their facility and researches.
