Under the overarching frame of “New Normal” (xin changtai) the PRC has started to embark on a new development path. The decisions of the Third Plenum (2013) and China’s 13th Five- Year-Plan illustrate the efforts to adjust China’s official governance model in order to cope with the negative side-effects of China’s high-speed, resource-intense economic modernization. Sustainability, green urbanization and social justice have now become the core building bricks of China’s post-2007/2008 development strategy. But reforms are not limited to the systemic level, the PRC has also started to readjust and update its foreign strategy.
This evening roundtable will bring together preeminent political scientists and China watchers to discuss the national and global dimensions of China’s “New Normal” in order to decrypt the drivers and motivations of China’s most recent governance reforms and strategic foreign policy readjustments.
Speakers:
Professor Guo Sujian (San Francisco & Shanghai)
Professor Sebastian Harnisch (Heidelberg)
Professor Hu Xiaobo (Clemson)
The roundtable is organized in the framework of the DFG project on "Konzeptionen von politischer Herrschaft und Entwicklungswegen in den Studien chinesischer Politikwissenschaftler". For more information, please visit:
