Two Articles in Chosun Ilbo by Werner Pascha
Just like German-French cooperation – what if Korea and Japan could engage in economic cooperation and even pull in North Korea too
Prof. Dr. Werner Pascha has recently contributed two op-ed pieces for Chosun Ilbo, one of South Korea’s largest newspaper and media groups. It is said that The Chosun-ilbo (Daily News) has the largest readership among all newspapers in Korea.
In an article for the Chosun Ilbo newspaper (27 May 2017), he discusses the challenges facing the Korean government under the newly elected President Moon Jae-In, titled “Just like German-French cooperation – what if Korea and Japan could engage in economic cooperation and even pull in North Korea too”. Among other points, he suggests that ties between government and business have to be reduced convincingly in order to strengthen the entrepreneurial momentum within the country.

A second article for Economy Chosun (3 May 2017), based on an internet interview, is on Abenomics, the Japanese government’s strategy to kick-start the economy. Pascha argues that fiscal and monetary policies have reached their limit in terms of buying time: “Rather, the structure of the economy has to change: Companies must find reasons to invest domestically”.
