Prof. Dr. Sebastian Büttner
Interim Professor of Comparative and Transnational Sociology
Since October 2017 Dr Sebastian Büttner is interim representing the chair of comparative and transnational Sociology. The chair is usually held by Prof. Dr. Sigrid Quack, who currently acts as full-time director of the Käte Hamburger Kolleg Centre for Global Cooperation Research at the Universität Duisburg-Essen.
Sebastian Büttner is a sociologist with special interests in political sociology, sociological theory, sociology of Europe, transnationalization, and globalization as well as in cultural sociology and sociology of knowledge. He graduated from University of Bamberg in 2004 and completed his Ph.D. at the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS) in February 2010. Before joining UDE, Sebastian Büttner was senior researcher at the Institute of Sociology of the Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) from 2010 to 2017. He earned his „venia legendi“ at the faculty of philosophy and theology of the FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg in February 2017. Moreover, during summer term 2017 he also represented the chair of sociological theory and cultural sociology as an interim professor at the FAU. Sebastian Büttner completed his Ph.D.
