Particular research foci:
- Theories of society and theorizing change in society
- Understanding current social transformations, especially in relation to processes of transnationalization and globalization
- Sociology of Europe, in particular the tensions between Europeanization and regionalization/re-nationalization as well as the structures of European governance
- Contemporary epistdemic cultures, with special focus on new cultures of work and expert cultures as well as social transformations relating to increasing scientization and digitalization of society
- Transformations of politics and government in contemporary society, especially at the example of changing modes of political governance and expertise
- Classical and current issues of economic sociology and sociology of development
Current research project:
EU Professionalism. A qualitative study of different forms of EU-related expertise
This research project is a sub-project of the research group „Horizontal Europeanization” funded by the German Science Foundation (DFG) between 2012-2018. I coordinate this project together with Steffen Mau from Humboldt University Berlin.
