IATEFL Conference - Albert Biel presented on gender and sexual diversity in language education

The IATEFL (International Association for Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Conference took place in Brighton from April 15-19. The conference unites researchers, teachers and material writers to discuss current issues regarding the teaching of English in a variety of contexts. Albert Biel presented on how gender and sexual diversity (GSD) can be implemented into language education. In his talk, he analysed examples from English textbooks used in German schools to show that GSD is no longer absent in current material, but much more work is necessary to include affirmative queer representation and deconstruct heteronormativity.
