Initiative “Reclaim Our Economy” Holds Event in Essen

#ROEcity – Reclaim Our Economy: Cities as Drivers for Alternative Economies

From Friday, 27th until Sunday, 29th of October the event “Reclaim Our Economy: Cities as Drivers for Alternative Economies“ is taking place in Essen, opening at UDE Campus. The event is organised by a group of young change-makers who try to rethink and redesign present economic systems for a better future, forming the initiative “Reclaim Our Economy”. Talks, panel discussions, tours and workshops will fill the event's agenda which will take place at various locations.

Where do new economic ideas evolve and succeed, where can they be tested and redesigned if not in the urban surrounding? The complexity of a city provides key drivers for developing alternative and sustainable economic systems. During a three-day-programme from 27th until 29th of October 2017 the initiative “Reclaim Our Economy” will discuss the role and the possibilities of urban systems for economic transformation between stakeholders from science, economy, politics and society and develop new ideas. The initiative evolved from the project "Reclaim Economics" of the global think-tank Club of Rome which started in 2016.
The programme is split into various event formats on various grounds in the city of Essen, including talks, panel discussions and workshops: On Friday, alternative and sustainable economic models will be displayed and discussed at Campus Essen of the University of Duisburg-Essen. In the afternoon, keynotes and a panel discussion will be held at Kreuzeskirche, which leaves the stage to scientists and city representatives. On Saturday and Sunday at Freiraum at Weberplatz, participants are welcome to make use of the first day’s input and inspirations and develop future projects together with the organisers of #ROEcitiy in a workshop environment.

Partners and supporters of the event are The Club of Rome, Main Research Area ‘Urban Systems’ as well as Napro – The Sustainability Process of the University of Duisburg-Essen, European Green Capital – Essen 2017, Initative für Nachhaligkeit e.V. (IfN) and StadtBauKulturNRW.
