ATBEST Conference 2016

An international conference from the project platform ATBEST is being held at Linköping, in Sweden on the 7th and 8th of September. The University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) is part of the network and is included in several ATBEST projects.

ATBEST, short for “Advanced Technologies for Biogas Efficiency, Sustainability and Transport”, is hosting this September an international conference at Linköping, in Sweden, in order to explore how the efficiency and sustainability of the Biogas supply chain can be maximised. The invited speakers from industry, policy and academic sectors are asked to complement the research being carried out by fellows.

Part of the ATBEST Collaboration Platform is the University Duisburg-Essen (UDE), which forms together with the University “Technische Hochschule Köln (TH Köln)” the German part of the programme. The latest ATBEST network meeting took place last year in Germany, hosted by TH K?ln. From a logistics’ section, ZLV Chairman Prof. Dr. Bernd Noche, who runs the Department for Transport Systems and Logistics (TUL), is engaged into ATBEST research together with two PhD candidates . In Addition, within the Centre for Water and Environmental Research (CWE) of the UDE, two PhD candidates work under the guidance of Managing Director Dr. Michael Eisinger for the project as well. All four PhD candidates are going to present their latest findings at this year’s ATBEST-conference.

The upcoming conference will comprise presentations from leading academics and industry experts on the guiding theme “Biogas for the future – towards a sustainable and efficient supply chain”, including the subtopics feedstocks and digestion, process monitoring, upgrading and supply and optimum biogas utilization. The two-day programme will also include delegate presentations, networking opportunities and an industry led workshop focusing on the biogas market for the future.

Biogas, a mixture of methane and carbon dioxide, is a source of carbon neutral energy for electricity generation, heating and transport, which can make a significant contribution to Europe’s climate change commitments.

Funded by the European Union, the ATBEST Marie Curie Innovative Training Network (ITN) is a collaboration between eight partners located in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Sweden. The project tackles several key research challenges along the biogas supply chain, improving its competitiveness with respect to fossil derived fuels and increasing the sustainability of the biogas industry in Europe.
