ImPUlSe Spring School 2024: Sustainable Agro-Food Supply Systems

We are excited to announce the opportunity for Master and Ph.D. students to participate in our upcoming Spring School on Sustainable Agro-Food Supply Systems. Funded by DAAD – the world’s largest funding organisation for the international exchange of students and researchers – the Spring School will take place in Duisburg from April 29 to May 6, 2024.

The Centre for Logistics and Traffic (ZLV) at the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) will host the Spring School within the framework of the ImPUlSe research project, exploring the complexities, innovations, and opportunities within sustainable food systems and supply chains.

50 participants from all over the world are expected, with a special focus on students from Mediterranean countries who will receive financial support to facilitate their attendance. The Spring School is designed to be both interdisciplinary and multicultural, promoting collaborative work in diverse groups. A blend of academic rigor and immersive, experiential learning is achieved through various pedagogical methodologies. These include lectures, workshops, field trips, student presentations, small group discussions, plenary session discussions, and case studies to be solved in working groups.

The focus areas include:
• Integrating sustainability in food systems.
• Implementing circular economy practices.
• Sustainable life cycle models.
• Optimizing logistics and food supply chains.
• Developing sustainable governance measures.
• Evaluating food supply chain networks.
• Assessing sustainability and making multi-criteria decisions.

Participants will obtain the necessary knowledge and skills to assess food supply chains and make informed decisions, fostering a holistic understanding of sustainability and circularity practices along food supply chains.
