Research in Engineering

Closely networked with unique bandwidth

Research in Engineering

With its closely networked departments, Engineering Sciences at UDE offers a unique range of research with three faculty specializations. Research is closely linked to teaching at the highest level, which is oriented towards the faculty's areas of specialization.

With its 52 subject areas, the faculty is one of the largest engineering faculties in Germany. Supported by five affiliated institutes and other cooperating institutes, the faculty efficiently and quickly translates its research results into application-ready practical projects together with partners from other national and international research institutions as well as business and industry. This is not the only reason why the engineering sciences at the University of Duisburg-Essen are highly regarded and networked internationally in many areas: They occupy a leading position in nanotechnology as well as in research into combustion processes, for example. International visibility and reputation are also high in the fields of automotive engineering, energy, environmental technology and semiconductor research. The same applies to the optimization of communication, radio and radar systems, energy networks, optoelectronics and interactive media systems.

Transfer and Sustainability

Transfer

The Faculty of Engineering transfers knowledge from the university to application at many levels and in many ways. In fact, this close link between academia and industry is one of the traditional strengths of the German engineering sciences.

Sustainability

Sustainability is one of the major drivers of research in the Faculty of Engineering today. This is clearly reflected in the topics of the projects that the individual departments are working on.
