In 1995, the non-profit association with headquarters in Essen was founded.  There are currently about 60 members. The aim of the association is to support and promote the department of municipal water and waste management at the University of Duisburg-Essen, by promoting scientific research, collection and dissemination of information, and consultation on current issues by supporting training and education.  Purpose of the Statute is set out in particular by issuance and publication of a series, which realizes, among other things, the presentation of scientific and technical knowledge, the allocation of scholarships, the funding of equipment and personnel for research projects and support for study and research trips. Through their advice the association’s members contribute to an orientation, in training and research in the field of municipal water and waste management at the University of Duisburg-Essen, to daily practice.
