Registration deadline: July 28, 2024

Abstract deadline: August 11, 2024

Gas-phase synthesis provides exciting opportunities towards scalable generation of functional nanomaterials for energy, catalysis, sensing, and health applications. Flames, plasmas, and wall-heated reactors provide complementary formation pathways covering most of the elements in the periodic table. Compared to traditional wet-chemistry approaches, these gas-phase high-temperature synthesis routes increase the range of accessible materials and have advantages for production of industrial quantities of nanoparticles. They enable high-throughput production, fast processing, facilitating process design (manufacturing and collecting), and simplicity (continuous solvent-free one-step process). This Symposium provides the opportunity to present and discuss the latest advances in fundamental understanding, modeling and simulation, in situ diagnostics, scale-up, and application of gas-phase synthesis and particle reactions.

Agenda:

Our symposium provides an opportunity to present and discuss the latest advances in the following topical areas:

  • Fundamentals of Particle Formation, Reaction, and Growth
  • Modeling and Simulation
  • Diagnostics and Data Analysis
  • Scale-up and Application

Keynote lectures

  • Philip de Goey (Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands): The Iron Power Cycle: Single-particle level studies
  • Zhongshan Li (University of Lund, Sweden): In situ optical measurements of aluminum combustion in steam
  • Alfred Weber (TU Clausthal University, Germany): Improved functional nanomaterials by online particle morphology characterization
  • Stephen Tse (Rutgers University, US): Gas-phase synthesis of carbonaceous nanomaterials

Contributed talks and posters

The symposium will feature contributed 15-minute talks and poster presentations, with ample opportunity for discussion and networking. To ensure intense discussions, we will limit the number of participants to about 80.

Registration will open May 15 (deadline: July 28, 2024).

One-page abstracts (template) can be submitted through a link provided after registration (deadline: August 11, 2024).

The conference fee of 200 € includes coffee breaks, lunches on September 10 and 11 as well as a conference dinner on September 10.

Timing

The conference will be held on-site in Duisburg, Germany, from September 9, 2 pm and run until September 11, early afternoon.

Journal publications

The symposium will be accompanied by a special issue of Powder Technology. Abstract submission for the special issue will be handled separately from the symposium.

Venue

The Symposium takes place at the NanoEnergyTechnologyCenter, NETZ, on the campus of the University of Duisburg-Essen.
