Prof. Dr. Randi Gunzenhäuser
Randi Gunzenhäuser has been Professor of American Studies and the Media at TU Dortmund since 2006. Her main research interests include literature, the arts, and performative cultures since Romanticism, rapture, pleasure, and the aesthetics of the affects, US-American popular cultures since the 19th century, melodrama, Modernism and Postmodernism, performative and immersive aspects of literature, theater, film and digital media, computer games, sitcoms, gender studies, masculinity studies as well as the function of skin in US-American texts since 1800.
Randi Gunzenhäuser studied US-American Literary and Cultural History and Theater Studies at Ludwig Maximilians University Munich, where she received her Ph.D. in 1992. She completed her post-doctoral degree in American Studies and Media Studies at the TU Chemnitz in 2002 before accepting a deputy professorship at the University of Siegen in 2003 and at LMU Munich in 2005.
She has published on a range of topics such as Automatons, Robots, and Cyborgs, (Female) Gothic, Video Games, and Comedy. In terms of urban studies, her main interests are media in cityscapes, urban soundscapes, concepts of sustainability, and the ‘green’ city in different media, as well as the history of US-American urban comedy.
