Laufende EU-Horizon-Verbundprojekte mit UDE-Koordination
Horizont-Europa-Verbundprojekt InvigoratEU
Mit der Ukraine, der Republik Moldau und Georgien wächst der Kreis der offiziellen Beitrittskandidaten der Europäischen Union auf zehn Länder an. Damit ist die EU-Erweiterung wieder eine zentrale Strategie, um in ganz Europa zu mehr Stabilität und Wohlstand in Zeiten neuer geopolitischer Herausforderungen beizutragen. Wie die EU ihre Beziehungen zu den östlichen Nachbarn und den Westbalkanstaaten zukünftig strukturieren kann, untersucht InvigoratEU. Das Horizon Europe Projekt wird vom EU-Lehrstuhl der Universität Duisburg-Essen gemeinsam mit dem Institut für Europäische Politik in Berlin koordiniert. Das Konsortium wird von der EU zunächst für die kommenden drei Jahre mit rund drei Millionen Euro gefördert.

Horizont-Europa-Verbundprojekt ActEU
Das Vertrauen in die Politik steckt europaweit in der Krise. Sinkende Werte, die Umfrageinstitute nahezu monatlich veröffentlichen, machen das ganz deutlich. Wie gewinnt die Politik das Vertrauen zurück und wie können sich Jugendliche für mehr demokratische Teilhabe begeistern? Das untersucht das neue Forschungsprojekt „ActEU“ an zwölf europäischen Universitäten. Das Konsortium wird vom Institut für Politikwissenschaft der UDE gemeinsam mit der Universität des Saarlandes geleitet.

Horizont-2020-Verbundprojekt MERLiN
Die Flutkatastrophen in NRW und Rheinland-Pfalz machen deutlich, wie Klimawandel und Gewässerverbauung zusammenwirken. „Gewässer und ihre Auen brauchen mehr Raum – sie müssen renaturiert werden“, sagt Prof. Daniel Hering. Das von der UDE koordinierte Verbundprojekt MERLIN zeigt, wie das in Europa klappen kann. Die Europäische Union (EU) fördert es bis 2025 mit 21 Millionen Euro.
MERLIN sucht nach neuen, weithin anwendbaren Lösungen für die Wiederherstellung der Funktionen von Süßwasser-Ökosystemen, um etwa den Hochwasserrückhalt zu verbessern und Kohlendioxid zu speichern. Beteiligt sind 44 Partner aus ganz Europa, darunter Universitäten, Forschungsinstitute, Naturschutzorganisationen sowie Akteure aus Wirtschaft, Verwaltung und Kommunen.
