Excursions

The following excursions are offered in the afternoon of Tuesday, 23^rd of July 2019. You can choose to participate in one excursion when registering for the conference. No extra costs will be charged as excursions are included in the conference fees. Please click on the title of an excursion below for further information.

Boat trip on Lake Baldeney

Lake Baldeney in Essen, the large Ruhr reservoir in the south of the city, is a top recreational area in this Ruhr metropolis. Enjoy a two hour boat trip and explore the lake, the Ruhr valley and its green surroundings from the water. You can also catch sight of Villa Hügel, the old residence of the Krupp family.

Guided bike tour Essen

This 2-3 hour bike ride combines an athletic activity with a guided city tour of Essen. You will discover Essen's main sights like the cathedral, town hall or the old synagogue. You will also explore the headquarters of ThyssenKrupp, the “RS 1” – Germany’s first bike freeway - and the garden town Margarethenhöhe. Zeche Zollverein: about coal and miners

A two hour guided tour of Zollverein coal mine industrial complex, which is now an UNESCO World heritage site. The tour starts with an amazing view from the coal washing plant's roof over the green surroundings and then follows the route that the coal took in former days after being mined. Learn about the history of coal mining and life of the workers and neighbours of Zollverein. www.zollverein.de

Museum Folkwang 

A 90min guided tour through the exhibition of Museum Folkwang. Learn about the architechture of Essen's most important museum that was reopened in 2010 and enjoy the unique art collection including works by Monet, Van Gogh and Klee. https://www.museum-folkwang.de/en.html

Conference Dinner

The conference dinner will take place on Wednesday 24^th of July 2019 at Villa Vue .

There will be a shuttle service to and from the restaurant.

Meeting Point: 6:00pm in front of S06 building

Shuttles will leave the dinner location at 3 times throughout the evening and stop at the main train station in Essen as well as the universities campus. Shuttles leave at: 11pm, 12am, 2am

The recommendations are located in the city centre, the "Südviertel" in the south in Essen and "Rüttenscheid" also in the south in Essen were bars and restaurants are more frequent.
