Youth International Competition on Global Governance

In July 2018, Miquel Salvadó Gracia, Julia Pallanch, and Angelica Vidal, three MA students at IN-EAST, participated as a team in the Youth International Competition on Global Governance (YICGG)at Chongming Island in Shanghai. The UDE graciously provided financial support via PROMOS for this trip.

The YICGG brings together students from all over the world in order to collect valid proposals that seek to find alternative and innovative solutions to the current most urgent transnational issues. The competition is organized each year by the School of International Relations and Public Affairs of Fudan University, Shanghai. Since its establishment, it has seen more the 1000 participants from 81 different countries and 143 universities.

Our students had first heard about the YICGG through the mailing list of the IN-EAST and decided to develop their own project to apply. Their team has been the first team ever from University of Duisburg-Essen to participate in the competition and we hope that their positive experience will inspire other students to apply.

The project that our MA students submitted for the first stage of the competition is titled Implementing Green Development. Km China: Towards the Rural Revitalisation of China. We are very proud to announce that they won the Award for Best Performance presenting their project. As a prize, they have been invited to participate in next year’s YICGG edition in Indonesia with a scholarship.
