Dr. Yuko Sugita studied General Linguistics (MA) at the University of Tokyo and received her Dr. phil. from University of Duisburg-Essen. She has been teaching and researching Japanese as a Foreign Language (JFL), Japanese Sociolinguistics, and Conversation Analysis at several universities in Germany. Since WS 2014/15 Lecturer for Japanese language at the Institute of East Asian Studies.
Her research and teaching interests include JFL, conversation analysis (with focus on prosody and multimodality), documentation and revitalization of endangered languages on the Ryukyu Islands.
She is a co-editor of the book “Japanese as Foreign Language in the Age of Globalization” (Heinrich / Sugita eds., 2008, München: Iudicium).
