As part of the Research Alliance Ruhr, the Research Center for Trustworthy Data Science and Security unites the expertise of its member universities to bridge the gaps between Psychology & Social Sciences, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Data Science & Statistical Learning, and Cybersecurity & Privacy.

You will work in a multidisciplinary team on collaborative research projects envisioned by leading international experts from various domains. This PhD position will be jointly supervised by an interdisciplinary team consisting of Prof. Nils Köbis (University Duisburg-Essen), Prof. Muhammad Bilal Zafar (Ruhr-University Bochum) and Prof. Lucie Flek (University of Bonn). Our research aims to bridge theoretical advancements and practical applications in the whelm of Large Language Models.

Your main tasks

  • Conduct research that systematically examines outputs of Large Language Models (LLMs)
  • Design and execute controlled behavioral experiments to assess how outputs by LLMs affect human cooperative and ethical behavior
  • Fine-tune models for experimentation
  • Independently analyze quantitative data
  • Collaborate with researchers from different disciplines to develop innovative approaches for human-centered use of LLMs.

Your profile

  • Excellent degree (Master of Science) in computer science, psychology, communication science, information systems, statistics, or related fields.
  • High degree of creativity, commitment, and analytical competence.
  • Motivation to work in interdisciplinary teams.
  • High proficiency in English, both written and spoken, for scientific publications and presentations
  • German language proficiency is desirable but not a must
