Research Assistant (f/m/d, No. 376-24)
salary group 13 TV-L

In the field of resource-efficient energy conversion, we are seeking a physicist (M.Sc.) to work on Chalcopyrite solar cells including nanostructures to explore optoelectronic properties.

Start of employment

2024-11-10

Duration of employment

36 months

Working time

28 h 41 min (72%)

Your main tasks

Chalcopyrite solar cells hold promise as stable and high-efficiency thin-film devices. Nanostructures can support improving their device efficiency and tailoring them for specific applications. The optoelectronic investigation will constitute the core of the work. Experimental fabrication and characterization of the nanostructures and devices play an equally important role as do mostly numerical simulations for understanding the working principles and optimizing the devices. Along with the research experience to gain, contribution to teaching (~3 SWS) will provide further qualifications.

Your profile

  • Excellent Master’s degree in physics, energy science, or a closely related field providing a profound background in solid-state physics to address optical, electrical, and thermal properties of matter
  • Background knowledge in photovoltaics and/or Chalcopyrites acknowledged
  • Practice with nanostructure fabrication welcome
  • Experience with thin film deposition techniques (PVD, RTP, or printing), nanostructure fabrication or material and device characterization (SEM, jV) desirable
  • Commitment and joy both in experimental and theoretical work
  • Knowledge of numerical simulations (e.g. FEM-based solvers like Comsol Multiphysics) favored
  • Independent working behavior balanced with high-quality team player skills as well as good balance between developing own ideas and pushing forward the group’s research strategy
  • High-quality communication skills
  • Very good speaking and writing abilities in English language required, German language skills beneficial
  • Proof of ability to work abroad or in Europe

We offer you

  • Active participation in the development and advancement of exciting research areas
  • Contribution to renewable energy supply
  • Gain experience in determined scientific research and dissemination
  • Possibility to pursue a PhD degree
  • Pleasant and open-minded working atmosphere
  • Interdisciplinary and international team
  • Flexible working hours within the framework of existing working time models
  • Possibility of home office
  • Family friendliness through childcare facilities for your children
  • Advice on family care responsibilities
  • A wide range of further and advanced training courses, individual induction
  • Very good public transport connections and free parking spaces
  • Attractive sports and health facilities (university sports)
