UMEAExcellence in medicine
The Clinician Scientist Academy of the University Medical Center Essen (UMEA) has set itself the goal of supporting physicians interested in research at an early stage in reconciling clinical and scientific activities on their way to becoming a clinician scientist. On the career path from (structured) doctorate (e.g. ELAN doctoral college) to specialist doctor to tenure track professorship, UMEA offers the appropriate funding and support options.
RIMURDoctoral School
The medical faculties of the Universities of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) and Bochum (RUB) are launching an innovative doctoral college in the field of immunology in January 2019 under the umbrella of the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr): RIMUR (Regulatory Immune Mechanisms Doctoral College at the University Alliance Ruhr). RIMUR enables assistant doctors to do a scientific doctorate after completing their studies. The Mercur Research Center Ruhr is funding the programme with around half a million euros over three years.
UMEA 2Advanced Clinician Scientist Programm
The University Medicine Essen Advanced Clinician Scientist Academy (UMEA²) enables advanced young scientists to combine their clinical work with excellent research at the University Medicine Essen. UMEA² is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
With a funding period of 6 years, an average of 50% time off for scientific work and an integrated qualification programme, UMEA2 provides advanced young scientists with an excellent framework for setting up their own working group.
