C-TNBS Center for Translational Neuro- and Behavioral Sciences
The Center for Translational Neuro- and Behavioural Sciences (C-TNBS) at the University Hospital Essen combines the very successful scientific and clinical activities of a large number of preclinical institutes and clinics dealing with neuroscientific and behavioural issues at the level of patient care as well as in the field of basic, preclinical and clinical research. The working groups of the C-TNBS cooperate nationally and internationally and are involved in several joint projects of the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the EU.
Ultra-high-field magnetic resonance imagingErwin L. Hahn Institut
The Erwin L. Hahn Institute for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (ELH) is dedicated to the research, further development and application of ultra-high-field magnetic resonance imaging (UHF-MRI), particularly in the cognitive neurosciences and in clinical diagnostic imaging. Founded in 2005 as an inter-university central institution of the University of Duisburg-Essen and the Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen, the ELH can now look back on more than 15 years of successful German-Dutch cooperation and international top-level research. The basis for the successful research activities at the ELH is the closely interlinked interdisciplinary cooperation of cognitive scientists, researchers from the natural and engineering sciences and medical scientists.
IKM Institute for AI in Medicine
In 2020, the Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (IKIM) was one of the first in Germany to start in this important field of innovation. It works in close cooperation with the established classical medical disciplines. It is part of the Medical Faculty of the University of Duisburg Essen and the University Medical Centre Essen and is thus integrated into an excellent scientific environment.
The goal of the IKIM is to scientifically analyse and further develop the possibilities of artificial intelligence in medicine, to make it usable for the care of patients and to establish it in the training of tomorrow's medical professionals.
