Learning objectives
At the conclusion of this course students should be able to- identify the major assumptions of the linear theory of shells,
- derive analytical solution of simple shell problems,
- analyse more complex shell structures using software and to critically assess the numerical results.
Content
- structural principles and classification of shell structures,
- membrane theory of shells with rotational symmetry,
- bending of shells with rotational symmetry,
- analysis of composite plate and shell structures,
- Introduction to finite element analysis of shell structures using commercial software
