Biographic data
Dieter Bathen studied chemical engineering at the University of Dortmund. In addition he studied organisational psychology. After his PhD in 1998 and a research stay at the University of Cambridge (UK) he obtained the university lecturing qualification (habilitation) for process engineering in 2002. Afterwards he switched to chemical industry. He joined Degussa AG (today Evonik AG) and held several positions in research and development and later in production at Degussa Röhm GmbH. 2007 he was appointed full professor at the newly founded chair of thermal process engineering at the University of Duisburg- Essen linked with the scientific directorship at the Institute of Energy and Environmental Engineering (IUTA e.V.). Since 2014 he is CEO of Johannes-Rau-Forschungsgemeinschaft, the research organisation of the federal state of Northrhine-Westphalia.
