ICAN at the university of Duisburg-Essen combines machines, methods and scientific expertise for analysis on the nanometer scale. It enables the scientific groups of the university of Duisburg-Essen and their collaborators to have their samples analysed by the best suitable methods: characterization encompasses static snap-shots of the material structure as well as time-resolved imaging of processes, which are important for material synthesis and functionality. The measurements include in-situ and ex-situ methods and can be made on modell-systems as well as in real technical environments. For this purpose we use highly speciallized machines, which would not only exceed the financial capacities of single projects or groups, but also the needed technical know-how for planning and realization of the analysis. The machines are available for all users, after proper training and introduction. In addition the ICAN team will advise to choose the correct method for your question, perform the measurement and help with the interpretation of the obtained results.
