At the University Hospital Essen: Annual Summer Academies

For the on-site programme 2024: please scroll down !

The student exchange with the partner universities is additionally supported by the Essen Summer Academies on “Infection and Immunity”, which started in 2011. The structured training program is aimed to recruit excellent students on an annual basis from the partner universities. The annual academies offer an ambitious two-week program of lectures and lab visits. Young scientists learn about the latest studies in the field of infection and immunity and carry out productive exchanges with the researchers of the University of Duisburg-Essen. Cultural activities are an inherent part of the program.

Essen, Wuhan, Shanghai, Guangzhou (online), 16-27 August 202111th Summer Academy "Infection and Immunity"

lecture and tutoring programme 2021

After a very successful first online academy in 2020 we decided to offer additional places to our Chinese partners. Still, during the programme, it proved to be the right approach to limit the number of particpants to 25 alltogether. Among these were 14 participants from Wuhan, 6 from Shanghai and 5 from Sun-Yat-Sen campi in Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

Essen, Wuhan, Shanghai, Guangzhou (Online), 17-28 August 2020 10th Summer Academy: "Infection and Immunity in times of COVID-19"

lecture and tutoring programme 2020

The summer academy for students from our three Chinese partner universities has been successfully established over the last few years and was celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2020. Unfortunately, due to the Corona crisis, it could not take place in Essen with the physical attendance of the students. However, this crisis has proved the tremendous importance of a sound education in infectious diseases and understanding of the research field of infection and immunity. Therefor we offered this summer programme as a two-weeks webinar with selected talks by virologists and infectious disease specialists from our faculty. The sessions were organized via ZOOM. 18 advanced medical and master students from our partner universities with a special research interest in infection and immunity took part in the programme.
