In the Competence Cluster for Virtual Systems , the Faculty of Economics, the Faculty of Biology and the Department of Construction Sciences (Faculty of Engineering Sciences) provide cross-faculty, demand-oriented and flexibly deployable data processing resources in the form of virtual systems. The Competence Cluster promotes synergy effects and the gain of knowledge and technology, the possibility to form thematic priorities and to use existing potentials in research and teaching in an innovative way.

An essential objective is to make available hardware and software resources, regardless of location, time and individual technical equipment, with the aid of virtual Windows and Linux desktops. This applies to all status groups, i. e. students, scientists and staff.

In addition,"special areas" such as individual server applications, scientific computing or simulations can be realized by means of a powerful server structure.
