From Stanford to the Ruhr region
Top researcher Prof. Dr. Xijie Wang has taken up his professorship for ultrafast electron diffraction at two universities. It is a first for the University Alliance Ruhr. In future, the renowned physicist will be researching at both the UDE and TU Dortmund University.
Creative minds develop prototypes
When creativity and technology come together, ideas can be transformed into prototypes. At the CCLP, people interested in founding a company can make products tangible with the help of 3D printers. An interdisciplinary team is on hand to provide advice.
A cause of immunodeficiency identified
After surviving a stroke or heart attack, infections start to increase. A team from the UDE, the UK Essen and the ISAS in Dortmund has found a reason why the immune system is often disturbed after these health incidents and derived a treatment approach from this.

At the UDE you will meet people from more than 130 nations in a large melting pot. The Ruhr area is a structure of superlatives: Germany's largest settlement area, right in the centre of Europe. Despite all prejudices, it is not grey here, but green. In 2017, Essen was named the "Green Capital of Europe". And the Ruhr region is rich in culture. So rich that the entire region has been declared European Capital of Culture 2010 by the EU. But while other conurbations always try to present their best side, the people in our region show themselves as they are: Imaginative, curious, open-minded.
