Research in Focus

Artificial intelligence is ubiquitous, and the pace of development is enormous. In the public discourse, it is negotiated which innovation is perceived as useful and reliable. UDE researchers from the faculties of psychology, computer science and cognitive science want to get in front of the wave of public debate and explore how machine learning can be optimized so that AI is trustworthy. Their goal: not to view AI as a mere tool of the trade, but to understand the independent role that artificial systems have in interacting with humans and to identify ways in which humans can use these increasingly autonomous systems to their advantage. The team at the University of Duisburg-Essen is working closely with other experts at the TU Dortmund University and the Ruhr University Bochum as part of the University Alliance Ruhr.
