Didactics of Primary Social and Science Education with a Focus on Social
"Sachunterricht" (Primary Social and Science Education) is a German subject taught in primary school that combines social science and natural science education. The section Didactics of Primary Social and Science Education with a Focus on Social Sciences ("Didaktik des Sachunterrichts mit Schwerpunkt Gesellschaftswissenschaften") is affiliated with the Department of Geography and the Institute for Primary Social and Science Education ("Institut für Sachunterricht" (ISU)). The ISU contains two areas: Didactics of primary social science education and natural science education.
Research
The research areas contain theory development, empirical classroom research and the development and evaluation of teaching and learning environments. Current research projects include the following topics:
- Digitalization, digitality, digital media and technologies
- Geoweb and (geo)media
- Education for Spatial Citizenship, spatial appropriation and socio-spatial practices
- Education for Innovativeness ("Bildung für Innovativität") and participation
- Reflection and reflexivity
- Teacher training and professional development of prospective teachers
- Human-environment research in education and out-of-school learning

Traveling by Public Transportation
Arriving at central station Essen, you use the tram (Stadtbahn) 108 (towards "Altenessen BF") or 107 (towards "Gelsenkirchen Hbf") to "Viehofer Platz". The tram runs every ten minitues in daytime. Then you leave the tram at the station "Viehofer Platz". Take the exit "Stoppenberger Straße". On the left you see the Schützenbahn-Buildings.
