Background of UKM

Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) or also known as the National University of Malaysia is one of twenty public universities in Malaysia.It was established on 18th May 1970. Currently, UKM is one of the leading universities in Malaysia and has been designated as a Research University by the Government of Malaysia since 2007. UKM offers an excellent environment for academic activities with modern campus facilities. The main campus, spanning an area of about 1,100 hectares, is in Bandar Baru Bangi, strategically located close to the main gateway to Malaysia, the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). It takes approximately half an hour of easy ride in a taxi to reach UKM from the airport. The main campus is also easily accessible to the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, via various means of transportation either by car, bus or train.

A total of eight faculties, a Graduate School of Business and 12 institutes are located in the main campus. Additionally, UKM also operates the Medical Centre (UKMMC) in an area measuring 22 hectares in Cheras about half an hour drive away from the main campus. The UKMMC consists of the Faculty of Medicine, the Institute of Medical Molecular Research (UMBI) and a teaching hospital. A third campus of about 20 hectares is located in the main city of Kuala Lumpur, 30kms away from the main campus. This campus houses the Faculty of Medicine (Pre-clinical), Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Dentistry and Faculty of Pharmacy.
