Infrastructure of the Institute

Available infrastructure at the Institut für Materialwissenschaft

The institute has laboratory space of roughly 1000 m2 available. The technical infrastructure comprises material synthesis and testing across a vast range of methods.

 

Synthesis

  • Full scale chemical laboratories (70 m2 + 20m2) with 9 fume hoods
  • Horizontal tube furnace ROC 85/450/13-3z (Tmax = 1500°C) (Thermconcept), inert gases, oxygen, or reducing gases (forming gas)
  • Horizontal tube furnace ROC 75/450/15
  • One muffle furnace (Tmax =1400 °C) with possibility of sintering in a gas atmosphere
  • Four muffle furnaces (Tmax =1100 °C) (Nabertherm)
  • Muffle furnace P330 (Tmax=1200°C) (Nabertherm)
  • Tube furnace MTF 12/38/250 (Tmax=1200°C) (Carbolite)
  • Polishing TegraForce-5 (Struers)
  • High pressure laboratory reactor (autoclave) BR-300 & Logger BTC-3000 (Berghof)
  • High temperature – folding oven RSH 50/250/13 (1300°C) (Nabertherm)
  • Two inert gas glove box systems, one for synthesis and one for high purity processing and characterization (laminar flow, AFM inside)
  • Bridgman oven for single crystal synthesis (up to 1350°C, inert gases and oxygen) & high temperature oven (1600°C) (Carbolite-Gero RE-O)
  • Planetary Ball Mill PM100CM (Retsch)
  • Nano-Flex DLS nanoparticle size analyzer (Particle Metrix)
  • Sputter coater, Cressington 208 HR
  • Evaporation source (metals and organic molecules, Lesker Spectros 150) 30 -1200 °C
  • Centrifuge 320 R (Hettich Zentrifugen)
