Florian Philipp Ott M.A., M.Sc., Jahrgang 1988, ist Lehrbeauftragter des Instituts für Politikwissenschaft. Hauptberuflich leitet er das Büro des koordinierenden Staatssekretärs Steffen Saebisch im Bundesministerium der Finanzen als dessen persönlicher Referent. Zuvor war er von 2015 bis 2017 als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter der Professur für praxisorientierte Sozialwissenschaften von Prof. Dr. Ulrike Berendt beschäftigt, leitete von 2017 bis 2022 als persönlicher Referent sowie wissenschaftlicher Leiter das Büro eines Bundestagsabgeordneten in Berlin und war 2022 als stellvertretender Regierungssprecher der nordrhein-westfälischen Landesregierung in der Düsseldorfer Staatskanzlei tätig.
Sein Forschungsschwerpunkt ist die Politische Psychologie. Er befasst sich beispielsweise mit dem politischen Einfluss von Emotionen, den psychologischen Motivdispositionen und Selbstwirksamkeitserwartungen von Politikern und persuasiver Kommunikation im Kontext von Verschwörungstheorien. Im Rahmen seines Dissertationsprojekts, das von 2016 bis 2017 von der Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung für die Freiheit mit einem Promotionsstipendium gefördert wurde und in dessen Rahmen er 2016 Forschungsaufenthalte an der Stony Brook University (New York, USA) sowie am Williams College (Massachusetts, USA) absolvierte, beschäftigt er sich mit der Wirkung von Angst bei der politischen Entscheidungsfindung.
An der Universität Duisburg-Essen studierte Ott von 2008 bis 2011 den Bachelor-Studiengang Politikwissenschaft sowie von 2011 bis 2014 den Master-Studiengang in Politikmanagement, Public Policy und öffentlicher Verwaltung. Beide Studienprogramme schloss er mit Auszeichnung als Jahrgangsbester ab. Prallel dazu absolvierte er von 2009 bis 2013 den Bachelor-Studiengang Soziologie an der FernUniversität in Hagen, wo er im Anschluss daran, von 2014 bis 2018, auch den Bachelor- und, von 2018 bis 2021, den Master-Studiengang Psychologie abschloss. Bereits während seines Studiums war Ott Stipendiat der Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung für die Freiheit , deren Auswahlausschuss für die Begabtenförderung er seit 2020 angehört.
Er sammelte praktische Erfahrungen als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter im Wahlkreisbüro eines Bundestagsabgeordneten, als stellvertretender Bundesvorsitzender und bundesweiter Wahlkampfleiter einer politischen Jugendorganisation, Mitglied im Bundesvorstand einer im Bundestag vertretenen Partei sowie kommunaler Mandatsträger.
Florian Philipp Ott M.A., M.Sc., born in 1988, is lecturer at the Institute of Political Science. Besides this part time engagement, he works as the Personal Aide and Chief of Staff in the office of the coordinating state secretary in Germanys Federal Ministry of Finance. From 2015 to 2017 he was research associate at the chair of Applied Social Sciences (Prof. Dr. Ulrike Berendt) at the Institute of Political Science. Between 2017 and 2022 he worked as Chief of Staff in the parliamentary office of a member of Deutscher Bundestag amd in 2022 as the Deputy Government Spokesman for the State Chancellery of the state of Northrine-Westphalia.
His research focuses on political psychology. He is primarily concerned with topics like the political influence of emotions, the psychological motives and self efficacy of politicians and the effects of persuasive media communication in the context of conspiracy theories. Within his dissertation, which was supported by a scholarship of the Friedrich-Naumann-Foundation for Freedom, he investigates fears' and anxietys' impacts on processes of political decision-making. In 2016, he worked for his research project as a visiting research scholar at Stony Brook University (New York, USA) and Williams College (Massachusetts, USA).
At the University of Duisburg-Essen Ott studied the bachelor's-program in Political Science from 2008 to 2011 and the master's-program in Policy Management, Public Policy and Public Administration from 2011 to 2014. He graduated from both with honors and as the best student of his cohort. During his studies in political science Ott earned a second bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 2013 and a third bachelor's degree in Psychology in 2018–both from the University of Hagen, where he also accomplished an additional master's-program in Psychology in 2021. He received a scholarship from the Friedrich-Naumann-Foundation for Freedom between 2009 and 2014. Since 2020 he is member of the selection board of the foundation's scholarship program.
Furthermore, he gained practical experiences as a staffer in the election district office of a member of Deutscher Bundestag, as vice president and national campaign manager of a political youth organization, as a national board member of a political party represented in Deutscher Bundestag and as a local city couselor.
