RADAR
Archiving data in RADAR (ongoing test)
The ReseArch DAta Repository (RADAR) is a cross-disciplinary data archive in which research data from completed scientific studies and projects can be published in a citable and visible manner and – in line with good scientific practice – securely archived and kept accessible for at least 10 years. It is provided for a fee by FIZ Karlsruhe – Leibniz Institute for Information Structures.
We recommend the use of RADAR especially for research data that cannot be published and to which project partners who are not members of the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) should have access.
On the RADAR website you will find further information on the service, as well as the license and user instructions for data providers.
Use of RADAR at UDE
In a test run, the Research Data Services currently offer members of the UDE the opportunity to archive their research data in RADAR via a UDE-owned RADAR environment.
When archiving data, metadata and research data are not publicly accessible. You can select people to whom you grant access to the data on RADAR and explicitly set their usage options.
We will set up access for you and support you in uploading the data and assigning metadata and access rights. After your data set has been checked according to formal criteria, you can archive your data set for a period of 10 years.
Please note in particular that no personal research data may be uploaded to RADAR. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding the anonymization of research data.
Costs for the use of RADAR
The basic fee for the use of RADAR is paid by the UDE University Library. Archiving is volume-dependent and priced at € 4.60 per GB for 10 years; it is billed once and can thus be financed via third-party funds (to be acquired). Small archiving services for projects that do not qualify for third-party funding are covered by the University Library as part of a research data fund.
We will be happy to advise you on the acquisition of third-party funding and material resources as well as the use of the research data fund for storing, archiving and publishing your research data.
Advantages of data archiving in RADAR
- Data archiving in accordance with the DFG “Guidelines for Ensuring Good Scientific Practice”
- Suitable for small amounts of data (a few GB)
- Servers exclusively in Germany, contracts are subject to German law, compliant with the GDPR
- Data publication possible at any time
- Access rights can also be granted to external researchers and/or reviewers not employed at UDE
