19.11.2024Workshop on Sensitivity Analysis

The Uncertainties Working Group held a workshop on sensitivity analysis, to which we invited an expert in the field: Samuele Lo Piano! Samuele started with an introduction to sensitivity analysis, covering both theoretical foundations and practical tools. The participants were then divided into groups based on their project topics. Within these groups we explored how to apply the tools and define the objectives of sensitivity analysis for our specific projects. After the group presentations, Samuele provided valuable expert feedback. We would like to thank him for his help and are highly motivated to incorporate the methodology into our models!

07.-08.11.2024Workshop on positive displacement machines

Our colleagues from Dortmund around the group of Prof. Andreas Brümmer hosted a workshop on positive displacement machines to improve interdisciplinary cooperation and understanding.  PhD students from all three areas of the SPP participated. The workshop covered important topics such as compressor operation and energy efficiency strategies - and a live machine demonstration! Thanks to everyone who attended, the event was extremely rich in discussion and a great success. We look forward to future opportunities to share knowledge!

23.-24.10.2024Workshop: Transformation paths to a green economy: Challenges and OR applications

On the 23rd and 24th of October Group A represented the SPP2403 project in the workshop “Transformation paths to a green economy: Challenges and OR applications” of the GOR working group “Environment and Energy” at FernUniversity Hagen. We had two great days with interesting presentations, insightful exchanges, and discussions.

09.07.2024System Analysis Workshop in Bochum

On the 9th of July 2024 the system analysis workshop "Modeling approaches for energy storage in different markets" took place at the Chair of Energy Systems and Energy Economics at Ruhr University Bochum (RUB). Together with project partners from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Leibniz University Hannover (LUH), the University of Duisburg Essen (UDE) and Carnegie Mellon University, we exchanged and discussed individual approaches to storage modeling, important aspects of the modeling parameters, such as exogeneity and endogeneity, and methods of cost estimation for Carnot batteries. It was a successful workshop with many new insights, ideas and possible topics for further collaboration. In order to promote regular exchange, further online meetings and in-person workshops will be held in future (planned: quarterly and annually).

19.-21.06.20242nd workshop in Kassel

Our second meeting took place over three days in the centre of Germany - in Kassel! As not all projects had hired employees at the kick-off, it was even nicer to get to know everyone in the large group. While the recently started projects gave an overview of their project content, various groups were already able to present their first results and publications! The intensive exchange that led to new collaborations between the sub-projects was particularly enjoyable.
A highlight of the workshop were the presentations by Prof. Ramteen Sioshansi, Prof. Vincent Lemort and Prof. Valentin Bertsch, who gave us insights and overviews of their current research. The programme was rounded off with a hike to Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe and the European Championship match of the German national team, which we watched and cheered on together.

11.-15.03.2024SpringSchool 2024 in Karlsruhe

Our Springschool took place in Karlsruhe from 11 to 15 March with a total of 44 participants. With the aim of promoting interdisciplinary cooperation and creating a common basis for the first project phase, the programme included lectures from the various areas of the SPP. Practical sessions included testing electricity prices for different types of power plants in a simulation game and practising the presentation of their own project in a Project Speed Dating.
During a trip to a pumped hydro storage power plant, the students were then able to experience another variant of energy storage at first hand.
A highlight for many participants were the student seminars, in which the doctoral students presented their fields of research and what they are currently working on.

A big thank you to all the helping hands!

09.-11.10.2023Kick-Off in Bad Breisig

The first meeting of all participating projects of the priority programme! Besides lively exchange and discussions, a hike and networking were on the agenda.
