Economic Geography, Traffic & Transport Logistics

Traffic, Mobility, Transport and Logistics

Our analyses encompass almost the entire scope of spatial research with the focus on logistics. We concentrate on the spatial effects of combined traffic, courier/express/parcel services, cargo transport centres and added-value concepts at logistics headquarters. Further areas of research include the accessibility and distribution of goods in cities, public transport routes and network planning as well as traffic and transportation in border regions. Air traffic (including airports, airport cities, airline alliances and low-cost airlines), sea- and inland ports, mobility management as well as traffic efficiency and sustainability are integral parts of our research agenda.

Economy, Scope, Location and Clusters

The focus of this study field lies in the examination of the factors and effects of economic structural change, the impact of hard versus soft location criteria on entrepreneurial site selection, regional development and various approaches to the advance a regional economy. Furthermore, we are involved in the geographical study of commerce, a spatial observation of real estate as well as the industry and service sector’s location effects.

Urban Systems, Cities and Metropolises

Here we are deal with current problems of applied city geography. In the process we examine the effects of demographic change on the development of cities and regions. We analyse the shift in tasks and in the use of urban spaces following structural changes as well as the resulting location systems and central structures. Moreover, we develop concepts for city and regional marketing and management as well as for residential and urban district design and improvements.
