Request for a thesis
How do I start?
The institute offers a lot of exciting topics from the current research projects for master and diploma thesis. To relieve your search for a suitable topic and to insure the required project-specific subject skills, the following steps are required:
- Please fill in an online-request-form and send it to us. Please regard that your overview of grades and curriculum vitae (certificate of your previous course achievements) are required.
- Within a week you receive a response from AKS to your request and potentially a purposed date for an interview.
- In the interview with a member of AKS you find out the details of particular (possible) topics.
- In case of a positive decision, of you as well as of the AKS member, the problem will be composed. To wait are 3-5 days.
- Please pick up the problem in AKS-secretariat (BB 512) and please announce your thesis in examination office personally.
In exceptional cases, when the students have applied directly at companies, the professor of the institute AKS take the supervision of master or bachelor thesis. In this case please connect Prof. Ding (steven.ding@uni-due.de).
How do I reach the desired objective?
The AKS expect of you not only hardworking. You should have done your work purposefully, independently and with involvement. You can expect from AKS:
- Intensive academic supervision and
- Granting of required technical tools.
After hand over the written thesis, you have to present and defend your thesis within a colloquium as a completion for your bachelor or master thesis.
The length of the presentation is limited to 20 minutes and it should be reviewed as a test presentation by a supervisor before.
The institute AKS supports talented students who successfully completed their diploma or master thesis to do a PhD at AKS. For a long-term planning and optimal arrangement please consult Prof. Dr.-Ing. S. Ding before or during your bachelor or master thesis.
What are the focuses of the institute?
- Model-based process control and fault-tolerant systems.
With continuously growing requirements on high reliability and availability of systems, the topics “software-based process control” and “fault-tolerant systems” gain more and more importance in research and industry. As an internationally leading team, the department AKS has significantly contributed to the development of model-based process control and fault-diagnosis technologies.
- Fault-tolerant embedded networked control systems
As a result of a rapid development of microelectronics and the technologies of computer, information and communication, there are more and more intelligent sensors, actuators, digital cotroller and microprocessors which are integrated and enhanced networked in imbedded systems. The expandent application of the imbedded networked control systems (em-NCS, embedded networked control systems) has breeded to new quality of various new technical products and enhancement of the performance in industrial plants in the last years. The control of em-NCS mostly insists of special imbedded control systems and interface for the connection of different sensor or final controlling equipments. Growing requirements on quality of the products and rising performance of the imbedded control cycle and intelligent system components lead inevitably to increase of complexity of such systems.
- Application in the automotive industry.
In cooperation with companies from automotive industry, the research team from AKS develops a new generation of software-based systems for fault-diagnosis, which are embedded e.g. in electronic vehicle dynamics stabilization systems or in motor-management systems.
- Liable and safe mechatronic systems
The application of mechatronicsystems has breeded to new quality of various new technical products and enhancement of the performance in industrial plants in the last years. The control of mechatronic systems mostly insists of special imbedded control systems and interface for the connection of different sensor or final controlling equipments. Growing requirements on quality of the products and rising performance of the imbedded control cycle and intelligent system component
That expresses in a rising number of sensors of actuating variable or in increase of amount of control function. But with a growing integration degree, the problems often come up because of rising sensitivity and fault probability of systems. Therefore a guaranty of a high availability is the most important development aim beside a n improvement of technical parameters of mechatornic systems, especially at systems for safe-critical applications or at rising requirements to liability.
System faults, breakdowns or rising risks should be diagnosed reliably and in sufficient time for enabling a suitable reaction for the control and for displaying a required maintenance work.
