Curriculum Vitae

Yannis completed a double degree program in English Language & Literature and English Language Teaching at Hong Kong Baptist University. After working as an ESL teacher at a secondary school, he pursued a Master's program in Intercultural Anglophone Studies at the University of Bayreuth. His MA thesis analysed the discursive construction of the national security law in Hong Kong in an online English media outlet.

Currently, Yannis is undertaking his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Bös, investigating the self- and other-construction of Hong Kong migrants in British public discourse. His research focuses on how elite discourse influences migrants' lived experiences, particularly how these Hong Kong migrants negotiate their identity in their new home, with whom they share a colonial relationship in the past. Through this project, Yannis aims to uncover the underlying rationale and discursive strategies behind this unprecedented and exceptional change in the British immigration system, which has only become more stringent, using the Discourse-historical Approach.
