Christmas in Vietnam

Christmas in Vietnam

In Vietnam in recent years, Christmas is not only celebrated by Christian but also by the general population, especially the young, regardless of their religions. Christmas decorations are seen everywhere, on the street, in shopping malls, restaurants, schools, working-offices and in many households. Unlike in Germany, where on Christmas days, streets are very quiet as people gather with their families and beloved ones. In Vietnam, I used to go with my friends to the Old quarter of Hanoi, walking through the Cathedral in the Old Quarter, to the shopping centers around Hoan Kiem lake, or to Hang Ma street, to join the bustling atmosphere and take pictures.

Christmas is a big holiday in Germany. I enjoy wandering around Christmas market, taste different types of drinks and street foods, and buy authentic products, which I do not have much chance to see during the year. Christmas also reminds me of our “Lunar New Year” – the biggest holiday in Vietnam. During this occasion, we also union with family members, relatives and friends, and jointly make traditional food and best wishes for the New Year. Actually, I really miss my family during Christmas holiday in Germany.
