Sociotechnical Systems
Team Leader
Current technical developments, such as artificial intelligence and virtual reality, are having an increasing impact on human communication and collaboration. Socio-technical systems, which describe the interaction of technology and people, are particularly affected by this. Numerous new questions and challenges arise on a technical, behavioural and organisational level.
The Sociotechnical Systems (STS) team investigates the interactions between people and Information Technology (IT) in the age of digitalisation. On the one hand, the team examines the current influence/use of IT in society and in organisations. The focus here is on the behaviour of people who make use of IT (e.g. social media). On the other hand, new methods, concepts and systems are developed to support society and organisations in the course of digitisation.
Central research questions are:
1. What effects/impact do new technologies have on individuals, society and organisations?
2. What interactions can we observe between existing and new socio-technical systems and how can transformation processes be supported?
3. How can sociotechnical systems be designed, built and used in the context of digitisation?
