OTE certificate for studying abroad or job applications

The OTE assesses your current language level in General English. You may need this certificate for internships or job applications as well as when studying abroad.

Students of the University of Duisburg-Essen who apply for a semester
abroad
at our partner universities usually need a DAAD-Certificate to
prove their knowledge of English. The results from the OTE can be used to issue this certificate.

Please note: Students are responsible for informing themselves about the language requirements of the desired university abroad and, if necessary, to register for the language test in due time. Contact your international office for details.

We only offer the OTE Advanced. This test determines language skills up to the level of C1.

How can I prepare myself for the test?

There are many ways to prepare for the Oxford Test of English. Because the test assesses your general proficiency in English, you are able to consult a wide variety of English language study resources. Many are available in the library on campus. These resources focus on vocabulary building and
written expression in a variety of contexts and at all CEFR levels.

You might also want to consider practicing your speaking and listening skills by meeting regularly with English speaking students and watching films,
television series, and news broadcasts or podcasts in English. Talk to your English language lecturer for more information.

Additionally, Oxford University Press has multiple test prep resources to
explore.
