Placementtest
What is a placement test?
Our placement tests are C-tests, a type of cloze test that can be used to assess general language competence. The tests consist of five short, self-contained cloze texts with varying degrees of difficulty. Each text contains 20 gaps. The total of 100 gaps must be filled in by completing the missing word parts (sometimes there can be more than one correct solution). You have 25 minutes to do this.
You are exempt from the placement test if you have successfully completed the language course at the previous level at IwiS. The course should not have been taken more than two semesters ago, i.e. one year.

Please take 25 minutes to complete the placement test conscientiously. Try to complete the test in a quiet environment and without interruptions. This is the only way to find out which language course is suitable for you. The test is used to assess your level of knowledge of a language and determine which level you should take to build up and/or expand your language skills in the best possible way.
A placement test is also necessary if you have no previous knowledge of a language.
We know that there are many ways to falsify test results. Do yourself and us a favour by completing the test carefully and independently to find the right course for you. In the language course, our instructors will quickly notice if your language level is significantly below or above the actual course level. In this case, you may perhaps not be allowed to continue the course. You will have to be moved to a group that is at your level. If there are free places in the other course levels, we will be happy to make this possible. If there are no free places in the level assigned by the teacher, it is unfortunately not possible to obtain language course certificates and credit points in this semester. You can then attend a suitable language course from the next enrolment phase.
