We are pleased to welcome Dr. Sujoy Karan join us as a scientist within the collaborative research center 1242. Dr. Karan held positions as a scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research Stuttgart and as a research associate at the University of Regensburg, following his PhD at the Christian-Albrecht-University of Kiel. His research currently focuses on tracking the interaction between magnetic impurities at the atomic scale. His involvement will step up our research activities and open avenues for future collaboration.

Jasmeen completed her undergraduate studies at Punjab University, Chandigarh, India, followed by a Master’s degree in Technology with a specialization in Solid State Materials from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. During her Master's, she conducted research in spintronics under the supervision of Professor P.K. Muduli. Jasmeen has joined our group as a PhD student, where she will be exploring the fields of quantum physics and nanoscale phenomena.

Hurrah! Dr. Gaël Reecht is joining our group as a post-doctoral researcher to work in the framework of the collaborative research center 1242.
Mr Reecht studied in Rennes at the Institut Nationale des Sciences Appliquées (French elite engineering-school system) including one year at the Ecole Polytechnique de Montréal (Canada) as an exchange student. He obtained his PhD in Physics at the University of Strasbourg (France) under the supervision of Dr. Guillaume Schull. Mr. Reecht intensified his experience with STMs as a post-doctoral researcher in the group of Katharina Franke at the Freie Universität Berlin, followed by a project management position at Createc-Fischer & Co. GmbH.

A low-temperature scanning tunneling microscope (Omicron, previously sitting in Bayreuth) just arrived in our group. We are all very happy about that, but also busy to upgrade the vacuum system and test the performance of the instrument. With regards to the performance, we already upgraded the spring-based damping system of the STM, known to be troublesome in the initial design.

Great news! The group is now part of the collaborative research center 1242, where we aim at investigating non-equilibrium dynamics at the nanoscale with terahertz scanning tunneling microscopy.

Welcome to Mehdi Bouatou
Mehdi Bouatou joined the group as a post-doctoral researcher. Mehdi has carried out his studies in Algiers (Algeria) and in Paris (France). His doctoral work, performed at the Laboratory Matériaux et Phénomènes Quantiques (Paris, France), focused on the investigation of molecules on 2D materials using low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy.

The group of Jun. Prof. Manuel Gruber officially starts its activity at the Faculty of Physics of the University Duisburg-Essen. The professorship is cofunded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in the framework of the Tenure-Track Program for the Promotion of Young Scientists (WISNA).
The group is interested in the quantum properties of nanoobjects adsorbed on surfaces and mostly relies on scanning tunneling microscopy.
