Thesis topic: Investigating the Relationship between User Engagement and Personal Characteristics: A Data-driven Approach
Related project: CourseMapper
Supervisor(s): M. Sc. Qurat Ul Ain, M. Sc. Shoeb Joarder
Description: This thesis aims at user modelling based on implicit data sources, such as user activity logging in a learning platform. The outcome of this thesis is to infer users’ engagement as a user model attribute, based on micro-interactions in CourseMapper. It starts with capturing low-level events from users’ activities and predicting levels of their engagement with the system based on defined engagement indicators using Machine Learning techniques. To further analyze users’ behaviors, we aim to investigate the correlation between users’ engagement with their self-reported personal characteristics. Thus allowing us to build a learner model, which will eventually lead to personalization of explanations in the future.
