Project ColognE-Mobil (Phase 2)
While phase 1 (2009 - 2012) of the colognE-mobil research project still focused on the private automobile and, for instance, developed a location concept for the implementation of a needs-based charging infrastructure, phase 2 (2013 - 2015) will investigate how electric mobility can be integrated into existing, more environmentally friendly transport systems.
The public transport network of the city of Cologne is at the edge of its capacity, which particularly affects the inner-city areas. In addition, motorised private transport has increased significantly in Cologne. Sharing systems demonstrably contribute to environmental protection and efficient mobility, because in combination with public transport they offer a resource-saving and, for the user, cost-effective alternative to the conventional car.
But what role does the integration of electric mobility play in this context? And how is it possible that the promotion of electromobility and the generation of regenerative energies go hand in hand with an increase in the quality of public space? The ISS is addressing these and other questions as part of phase 2 of the colognE-mobil project.
