Work Group Socialisation Research: News from 2017-2021
Training Workshop online: Childhood and Youth from a Global Perspective
Under the title Childhood and Youth from a Global Perspective the Work Group Socialisation Research organises a virtual teaching cooperation with lecturers and students of Ton Duc University in Ho-Chi-Minh-City in the summer semester. The cooperation brings students of both universitites closer together and boosts exchange about childhood and youth. Students from Germany present findings about childhood and youth in their country in bi-national student groups, while the lecturers provide input on specialist lectures and invite students to discuss in meetings.
The presentation of the project can be viewed on the website of Training Workshop online: https://lehrwerkstatt.zhqe.uni-due.de/childhood_youth/
New Publication by Jessica Schwittek: Childhood in Germany through the Eyes of Young Refugees
In her new publication, Jessica Schwittek adopts an innovative perspective and asks how young refugees look at 'childhood in Germany', what surprises them and maybe irritates them as well. The article has been published in the magazine Gesellschaft, Individuum, Sozialisation (GISo), which was founded in 2020 by the University of Zürich.
The publication can be accessed here: https://giso-
In the first edition of GISo, Alexandra König has already published an article with the title "Sozialisation als Selbstprojekt. Eine qualitative Längsschnittstudie zu Ausbildung und Studium".
It can be accessed here: https://

"Animal Professionals“ – a Sociological Exploration with Prof Dr Annette Schnabel (University of Düsseldorf)
Out of a shared curiosity a collective article about questions of demarcation between animals and human beings emerged: Annette Schnabel and I looked at "animal professionals", namely police dogs and horses.
On this matter, we explored the animal-human relation in modern times, especially the interspecies-demarcation as a process of saying and doing in a professional context. The result will be published soon in the volume "Posthuman? Neue Perspektiven auf Natur/Kultur" published by Torsten Cress, Oliwia Murawska & Annika Schlitte under the title: "Von Menschen und Tieren in der Moderne – Zur Professionalisierung von Tieren" (König/Schnabel)
Internationality despite the COVID pandemic
The work group Socialisation Research starts a virtual teaching-learning cooperation under the title "Childhood and Youth from a global perspective" with teachers and students of Ton Duc Thang University of Vietnam.
The COVID pandemic has strongly limited students' mobility. It is increasingly important to make a new view on the world possible through other ways. The virtual teaching cooperation under the lead of Prof Dr Alexandra König and Dr Jessica Schwittek with colleagues from Ton Duc Thang University in Ho-Chi-Minh turns to the living conditions of young people in different societies in the context of migration. Students from both universitites will attend lectures and will be given the opportunity to communicate with each other.
