Bachelor- and Master-theses
You are interested in supramolecular functional materials and liquid crystals? - Then contact Michael Giese for more details on prospective Bachelor- and Master-projects or stop by in his office (room S07 S04 C25)
The Research Group is affiliated with the Institute of Organic Chemistry at the University of Duisburg-Essen and was started in June 2014. Our research field is the synthesis and analysis of supramolecular functional aggregates, especially those with liquid crystalline properties. A major goal is to utilize and control the molecular self-assembly of discotic aggregates and understand the underlying principles in detail in order to develop novel supramolecular liquid crystals for potential applications in optical and electronic devices such as organic solar cells or light-emitting diodes (OLEDs).

Felix Kraus successfully defended his thesis on "Investigations on the stabilization of supramolecular Blue Phase liquid crystals" - congratulations!
Jana, Søren and Dragan finished their Master's projects successfully in our research group - a good reason to celebrate. Congratulations and the best wishes for the next stations of your careers!
Tobias and Florian's latest paper was published today at ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces.
Congratulations!
Today we welcomed Rui as post-doc in our working group and we are looking forward to a good and successful cooperation. In Addition we hope you will enoy your stay in Essen.
Thorben received an award for his poster at the 2nd Münster Symposium on Intelligent Matter.
Congratulation!
Dennis has finally finished his doctorate and can now concentrate on the important things, congratulations and all the best for the future.
Today Meik Blanke successfully defended his PHD and is now owner of a nice pigeon hat, which he earned through a lot of work. Congratulations and all the best for the future!
Also this year our working group participated in the GLCC in Stuttgart. We would like to thank the organizers for a nice conference and hope to see you all again next year in Essen.
Roshanak joins the Giese Group for 6 months. In this time she will work on hybrid materials processed by additive manufacturing. Enjoy your time in Essen and good luck with your project!
From 21.11 to 12.12.22 Thorben and Tobias joined the group of Prof. Nemanja Trisovic at the University of Belgrade (Serbia) to work on bent-core liquid crystals. Thanks for your hospitality and see you soon!
Aleksandra and the leader of the serbian working group, Nemanja, join our group in september for a short reasearch stay.
We hope they enjoy their stay here in Essen.
