Albert Biel

Albert Biel (he/him) works as a research assistant in EFL Education at the University of Duisburg-Essen. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English Studies and Primary Education (German, Maths and General Education), and a master’s degree in Applied Linguistics. He is also a CELTA-certified English teacher. During his studies, he spent a year in York, UK. From 2017 to 2020, Albert Biel, was working as an editor in the department of adult education for German as a foreign/second language and modern languages at Cornelsen. He previously held a research assistant position at TU Dortmund University.

His main research interests revolve around social justice and diversity, and their role in ELT. In his research, he focusses on how English teachers deal with issues of identity and diversity in their language classrooms. He is part of the UDE-based Graduiertenkolleg zu querschnittlichen Fragen der Lehrkräftebildung (GKQL), which is a graduate college that researches cross-sectional challenges and priorities in teacher education. In his PhD project at the GKQL, he is concerned with reconstructing queer teaching and learning approaches in German ELT classrooms.
