iRTG: "Molecular Mechanisms of Cell State Transitions"

Prof. Dr. Perihan Nalbant

Prof. Dr. Stefan Westermann

The iRTG programme is focused on the mechanistic analysis of molecular mechanisms and functional interactions in cells. Our doctoral researches will gain in-depth knowledge of key regulatory concepts and mechanisms, as well as signalling pathways. With a variety of measures, events, supervision and mentoring, our candidates will acquire theoretical knowledge and experimental skills across multiple scientific fields and disciplines within the CRC..

SFB 1439

Multilevel response to stressor increase and release in stream ecosystems (RESIST)

Coordination: Dr. Vanessa Kramer

The integrated graduate school of the Collaborative Research Center 1439/RESIST trains an outstanding next generation of scientists with integrative skills in the analysis of stream ecosystems and the effects of different stressors from the molecular to the ecosystem level. It offers intensive and personalized supervision for all PhD students as well as excellent and interdisciplinary scientific training.
PhD students benefit from a comprehensive training program consisting of a lecture series, a monthly PhD seminar, an annual retreat and an annual summer school. Doctoral students are supported by a supervisory team consisting of two academic supervisors with complementary expertise from the group of PIs and a non-academic mentor.

RTG 2762

Heterogeneity, plasticity & dynamics in cancer cell, tumor and normal tissue responses to cancer radiotherapy

Coordination: Dr. Lisa Bachmann

The Research Training Group offers graduates from the fields of biology, computational biology/bioinformatics and medicine a qualified, multidisciplinary education in the areas of basic research, translational and clinical research in radiation sciences, precision medicine and computational biology as well as the opportunity to acquire transferable professional and social skills.

The aim is to enable scientists to work on research questions in the radiation sciences of oncology in interdisciplinary research teams, to gain an understanding of biostatistics and data-driven or mechanistic computer modeling in order to advance the integration of biological findings from radiation sciences and precision cancer medicine into clinical concepts of radiation oncology in the future.

WGS

The Water Graduate School (WGS)

Coordination: Dr. Vanessa Kramer

The WGS offers a platform for multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary education and training at all levels of study, from Master's to postdoctoral level. This means that (post)doctoral students can participate in the WGS regardless of their discipline if their research topic is related to water. The added value of the WGS lies in the joint training of all (post)doctoral researchers in the water sciences and the creation of a unique research and training environment with numerous top-class classes and courses.

BIOME

Graduate School of Biomedical Science (BIOME)

Koordination: Dr. Delia Cosgrove

The Graduate School of Biomedical Science at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany has been founded to integrate all PhD and MD graduates within the Faculties of Biology and Medicine into a cutting-edge interdisciplinary study programme tailored to ensure that they receive an outstanding, globally focused academic education. Additionally, we have created an intramural umbrella organisation for the research foci through the erection of a synergetic framework between the research training groups (RTGs), collaborative research centres (CRCs) and the BIOME thematic cores. The university’s internal drive to provide structures furthering soft skills, gender equality and family-oriented support additionally contributes to an excellent, all-round tertiary environment.
