About the project

About the project

The BMBF-funded joint project “HSU-Interregio: Researching, developing and networking heritage language teaching in an interdisciplinary and interregional way” combines multi-perspective and transnational approaches to heritage languages and heritage language teaching (HSU) in Germany and links the perspectives of research and teaching practice.

As part of the three-year series of events, academics actively shape the network in qualification phases together with experts on topics that build on each other:

  1. Acquisition of the language of origin in the family
  2. Language of origin lessons (at school)
  3. extracurricular activities.

An annual online event brings researchers together with HSU teachers and representatives of educational administration. In various formats, the participants discuss research and practical perspectives, work co-constructively in workshops on selected topics and create research-based materials for practice and administration.

Goals

  • Bundling of research activities on languages of origin and Heritage Language teaching
  • Interdisciplinary exchange of academics in qualification phases and initiation among future research projects
  • Networking of academics and stakeholders from practice and educational administration
  • Open access and Open Educational Ressources publications
  • Science communication
